“Is Mister Abney a good man?”

Reworking of MR JAMES Ghost Story Now Set in WW 2.

M R James.

 1 August 1862 - 12 June 1936

Though James's work as a medievalist is still highly regarded, he is best remembered for his ghost stories, which are regarded as among the best in the genre. James redefined the ghost story for the new century by abandoning many of the formal Gothic clichés of his predecessors and using more realistic contemporary settings. However, James's protagonists and plots tend to reflect his own antiquarian interests. Accordingly, he is known as the originator of the "antiquarian ghost story".

James perfected a method of story-telling which has since become known as Jamesian. The classic Jamesian tale usually includes the following elements:

1. A character full setting in an English village, seaside town or country estate; an ancient town in France, Denmark or Sweden; or a venerable abbey or university

2. A nondescript and rather naive gentleman-scholar as protagonist (often of a reserved nature)

3. The discovery of an old book or other antiquarian object that somehow unlocks, calls down the wrath, or at least attracts the unwelcome attention of a supernatural menace, usually from beyond the grave.

Our reworking of LOST HEARTS retain all of these elements but set in all the upset of the second world war . Stephen as been orphaned by the death of his mother and farther and has been living with a kindly neighbour Mrs Burrows, she has become ill and the authorities have began to start the mass evacuation of children to the country away from the cities.

LOST HEARTS has been shot entirely on location in the English Midland Counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire in its wonderful landscapes and in some of the most atmospheric and hunting country estates.

We have worked to have high production values in this project taking great care in look of each aspect of the drama, making sure costume was correct and using original pieces where possible, hair and makeup was again carefully designed as you would expect. And making the set come to life with props large and small that were of that period where possible was important to us.

Take a look at our production notes  page and see some of the locations , costume and larger props.
